A journey of growth: from a community mixed day school to a fully established Presbyterian County girls’ boarding high school.
The school was officially registered on 21st April 1983 as a public secondary school. It began as a mixed day secondary school, serving the educational needs of the local community, expanding access to affordable and accessible secondary education.
Over the years, the school steadily expanded in enrollment, staffing, and facilities. With strong community trust and support, it matured academically and administratively — laying a solid foundation for transformation and future expansion.
The school transitioned gradually from a mixed day school to a girls’ boarding institution. During the transition, boys remained day scholars while girls were progressively enrolled as boarders. In 2016, the last cohort of boys completed, and from 2017 the school became a fully girls’ boarding school — enabling a stronger focus on academic excellence, structured boarding life, and mentorship.
The school has successfully implemented the 8-4-4 curriculum for many years, preparing learners for KCSE. As Kenya transitioned to Competency-Based Education (CBE), the school aligned with national reforms. As at March 2026, the school has Form 3 and Form 4 as the final 8-4-4 cohorts, and admitted Grade 10 learners in 2026 as the pioneer CBC High School cohort.
P.C.E.A Icaciri Girls High School is a County School (Category C3), reflecting expanded catchment and strong standards. Since 2024, the school has been led by Mrs. Irene Maina, Senior Principal, guiding academic strengthening and transition phases.
